Indoor competitie (19 januari)

MUG 2

De competitiedag begon met wat verwarring: we waren op de verkeerde locatie terechtgekomen! Wel in Wageningen, maar bij een andere sportcomplex. Gelukkig hadden we het snel door, waren vlug weer in de auto en uiteindelijk nog goed op tijd voor onze eerste wedstrijd, dan wel op de juiste locatie.

Onze eerste wedstrijd was tegen Panic 2 uit Leiden. Het was een soort rematch: we hadden afgelopen keer pas tegen Panic gespeeld. Zoals ook toen was het opnieuw een heel leuke match, tot aan het einde heel energiek, maar ze wisten ons toch met 12-7 te bedwingen.

Vervolgens speelden we tegen Discover 2 uit Wageningen. Opnieuw een mooie wedstrijd, deze keer met wat meer kansen voor ons en heel spannend tot de laatste punt. Toen die uitgespeld was stond het 9-7 voor Discover, maar het was toch mooi om er ietsje dichter in de buurt van een winst gekomen te zijn.

De laatste wedstrijd was tegen WAF Open 3, ook weer uit Wageningen. We begonnen heel sterk met twee snelle punten voor ons, maar WAF stond al snel weer voor, helaas. Op dat moment waren wij misschien al een beetje uitgeput, terwijl hun spelers nog steeds super snel over het veld renden. Uiteindelijk overwonnen ze ons met 11-6.

Al in al was het een leuke dag met spannende wedstrijden en altijd een goede spirit. Ook al hebben we niet gewonnen, hebben we toch best veel geleerd, ook dankzij de coaching door Hora, die deze keer meekwam. Op naar de volgende keer!

MUG 1

After a long ass drive through the mist we made it to Haren and played Utka. Both teams felt the lack of a place to warm up with drills before the match: we had at least 2 drops in each of the first 6 points! 🙈 So, once again, we had to decide as a team to keep our cool and only do safe throws. (if you feel like this is a deja-vu: you’re right)
Even though Utka had some good plays, we managed to pull ourselves together sooner than them and after half time we expanded our lead to the final score of 12-9.

In the second game against Bluefingers, we played better, but so did they! They had some great fast plays, did quick up line cuts, had great long throws, and they were just annoyingly long… In fact so long that when they marked Emma she couldn’t even see any of us cutting up field 🙁 It was a nice intense game that we lost by 9-15.

After a long break of cheating at card games we were ready for our 3rd match against Airborn 2. We started out trading points but in a flash of insight Sjef called to play a 1 2 2 zone (so 1 on the handlers and 2 deep defenders) to shut down the iso plays and upline cuts. This worked amazingly well and it took them a long time to find a way through. At the same time we were more tuned in as a team and although they kept fighting until the end, we won with a very satisfying 13-8.

And finally 16:40 we played Gronical Dizzyness. In this game we didn’t repeat our 1 2 2 zone, but instead focussed on hard man defence. This was a pretty even game. Both sides fought hard and I think the we were never more than 2 points apart. At one minute before time cap they were ahead one point and played offence. We managed to force a turn over and score in extra time against their wall! We ended the game with 10-10.
A pity for them of course, but preventing a loss in the last minute gave us a real high for the long ass ride home.
